The role
What a Montessori guide does.
The Montessori teacher is a guide and an observer who gives lessons one on one, with the goal of intervening less and less as the child develops. The guide creates an atmosphere of calm, order, and joy and encourages children in all their efforts, helping them develop self-confidence and inner discipline.
With younger students the guide is more active, demonstrating materials and presenting activities based on each child’s needs. Knowing how to observe, and when and how much to intervene, is one of the most important skills a Montessori teacher develops through rigorous training.
